Rory McLeod – The Only Black & the only Muslim professional snooker player in the world

Professional snooker is a game dominated by white males. Black Muslim revert Rory McLeod is the only person of colour and the only Muslim to play in the pro ranks.

With a week off work, The Akh has been able to work on the car, motorbike, do the gardening, strip the wallpaper, replaster and rewallpaper the kitchen. Inbetween all that The Akh has managed (like all builders do) with a cup of tea in hand to watch a bit of snooker.

With the the Masters 2011 tournament on, The Akh has never seen anyone of any colour play the game, sure we have a few Chinese, but never any blacks or asians, so when I saw Rory McLeod (A black man with a more typical scottish name you could never find) and a beard, I wondered to myself, “no one grows a beard like that for fashion, maybe he’s a Muslim?”

So a few clicks away and thanks to the sheikh google, I found what I was looking for.

Yes Rory McLeod is a Muslim, and is still the only black professional on the circuit, and was the first and only to appear at this prestigious event, just as he was at the World Championships.

McLeod became a Muslim 10 years ago and is frequently seen listening to verses from the Koran on his iPod, adding:

“It helps calm me down, I find there are no better words or speech than that to help put me in the right state of mind.”

And does the father-of-three feel any extra pressure, given his pioneering status? McLeod adds:

“I used to worry about it a lot more than I do now, and that is partly down to my faith. I have plenty to be grateful for, I am looking forward to Wembley and, God willing, I can play well and do myself justice.”

For me snooker has been a game played in smoky pubs and back alley clubs, which most Muslims wouldn’t enter, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that 99.9% of pro snooker players are white men.

So what’s the answer?

It’s certainly not the lack of skills

McLeod admits that he has had his “fair share” of racist comments during his career, adding:

“It has been hard being the only black player on the circuit. I’m not treated any differently by the other players, but I have had some stupid comments from time to time. If I was to say that there is no racism out there I’d be lying, because there is. People are racist, how much is another thing. There is racism on this planet.”

What is sad is that rather then promoting a man that is making serious inroads into a whats seen as a “white’s only” sport, he has been passed over and now spends much of his year in Qatar coaching the national snooker team to supplement often slim pickings.

He said:

“I used to practise at the Academy when it was in Rushden and before it moved to Sheffield. One time, 22 players from Qatar were over, and I was the only player in the building. I got to know them well, and then they offered me work there. I’ve semi-moved out there now, it’s been 25 degrees this week, so London will be a shock.”

The Akh salutes the brother Rory and wishes him much success both on the snooker circuit and away from the game.

The Quran states “…do not forget your share of the world” so why are we only told to focus on the Akhira?

“…do not forget to pursue your share of this world” (Surah Al-Qasas Qur’an, S28 V77)

In all my years, I can never remember any of the Ulema telling us not to forget our share of the world – it’s always the hereafter that we should worry about.

Yes I know, this lifetime is a but a blink in comparison to eternity in the akhira, but why do we focus on the afterlife, and not give any credence to the here and now, is it asking too much to have both?

For me, this is borne out of one of the principles of life and that is the doctrine of determinism which modern day Muslims have interpreted in a way which runs counter to the Quranic spirit.

We have been taught to depart from the correct Quranic understanding, with the advocates of this specious doctrine extolling the virtues of surrender and stagnation. For centuries it has been preached that each man’s life is not the result of striving and planning but is predetermined so that man cannot affect its outcome.

The Muslim mindset generally falls into one of the following camps:

I will make the effort and the results are in my hands

OR

I will make no efforts and the results are in Allah’s hands

These are both diseased attitudes.

The legacy of the Blessed Prophets was that they applied themselves to the Nth degree and THEN relied on Allah Az’Wajjal.

Make your intentions and muster your best efforts, to the very best of your abilities whilst knowing the results are in Allah’s hands: that’s the balanced attitude.

Work towards your goals within this life and for the Akhira, as The Quran calls for the reasonable satisfaction of all wants. It does not tolerate self-deprivation any more than it tolerates indulgence and license.

The true Quranic spirit as taught to us by Allah’s Messenger SAW is that of Siratul Mustaqeem, follow the middle path in life.

Muslim graves vandalised at High Wycombe Cemetery…Who’s really to blame?

Bloggers and Media outlets alike have been reporting on the fact that Muslim graves were vandalised at High Wycombe Cemetery.

As a resident of the area, The Akh is often accused of neglecting local news over more pressing matters, well, in all fairness, let me break down to you exactly what has transpired:

There has been plenty of hang wringing and a fake anguish (for those not directly affected), followed up with a few BS meetings with self appointed community leaders (yes the emails have been doing the rounds since Friday), the meeting which will happen next year as the uncle ji’s are far too busy with a committee meeting, eating samosa’s, drinking tea, watching cricket or driving their taxi’s.

Once they’ve agreed to who will attend the big meeting with “baraa goraa” (big white man) then it’s a case of who gets to shake his hand, which tinpot venue will host it, who’s bringing the biscuits and will the local rag turn up to take a picture of us with baraa goraa….and then the most important, who gets to stand next to baraa goraa and gets the most important quote in the paper.

Once all the various factions have decided on the line they want to appear in the press, and have gotten someone who has a GCSE in English to type it out they will include the terms:

“disgusted, cowardly, deplorable, reprehensible, we condemn these acts”

Now to the layman, you are all thinking, “How can you be so hard? this is such a heinous act”

Well let me tell you something, I’m tired of the BS from these people.

There will always be idiots who commit acts such as these, but if you want to blame anyone for this, blame yourselves for electing councillors who don’t give a ish about you and do absolutely nothing to defend the interests of the people who voted them in.

This isn’t exclusive to my locality, after all it’s happened several times in Manchester and on three occasions in Leeds .

When you do nothing to stop the tide of Islamophobia, then you are either incapable, stupid or complicit through your inactions.

A case of the worst of people ruling over the best?

In June last year, The Akh attended a meeting where it was discussed that the Muslim section of the cemetry needs to be extended, mostly due to a burgeoning elderly community in the area.

When it was suggested that you will have to be politically savvy to get this goal achieved, without certain elements railroading hard against you, The Akh was accused of naivety….well they didn’t say “naivety” as you would need to have a decent grasp of vocabulary to know the existence of the term.

Well guess what, the proposal was met with usual cries of Muslims taking over and all the other usual narratives.

What is deemed a simple request for cemetery space quickly made it into the national press, with The Telegraph reporting:

“Council spends £150,000 so Muslim graves can face Mecca…..A council is spending £150,000 to extend a cemetery so that the graves of Muslims can face Mecca”

While The Express reported in typical BIG SHOUTY WORDS:

“STORM OVER CEMETERY PLAN THAT PANDERS TO MUSLIMS”

So just in case the rest of the world didn’t know it, Muslims, like the rest of the population of this planet do eventually die.

It was left to the Bishop of Buckingham, Alan Wilson to point out the bigotry in the press and to defend Muslims, because the Muslims of High Wycombe do not have a brain cell between them to defend themselves in the media or politically.

The good Bishop rebutted the entire falsity of the Islamophobic argument with three simple points:

Enter the Bucks Free Press with a story called “High Wycombe Cemetery Extension agreed for Muslim Burials.” This downpedals the fact that a cemetery extension was needed anyway, and points out Muslims like be buried facing Mecca whilst omitting, curiously, to point out

1. It doesn’t cost any more to bury people in new ground facing any particular direction

2. The site in question snakes round a hillside in all directions, and where the majority orientation has been East, Mecca is basically East of High Wycombe anyway

3. Since 11·3% of the town’s ratepayers are Muslim, they surely have the same right to be buried according to their wishes, if possible, as everybody else.

Next, as is the way with Flat Earth News, this scoop (that Muslims in High Wycombe die like everybody else — Shock! Horror!) is routed, via This is Local London, to the Daily Telegraph.

Whilst this has been brewing for almost a year, the inept councillors buried their heads in the sand and get this, came up with such harebrained schemes as the Gulshan-e-Wycombe Islamic garden plans to bolster community cohesion…I kid you not….just read some of the comments left.

The Akh is absolutely clear, the people of High Wycombe are governed by councillors who are an absolute waste of space and it’s not a case of them being half asleep on the job, they are in a deep seated comatose state.

The Akh is tired of politics, but with the upcoming elections the people of High Wycombe will be getting an exact breakdown on who is in the parlance of the kids today a wasteman.

Hold your local councillors to account and ask them what they’ve done for the community before voting for your Baradari as is the case whenever dodgy Paki’s are involved in politics.

Muslim councillors of High Wycombe….you have been warned, you will be held accountable for your negligence.

Creating The Terror Threat: Top level Al-Qaida operative worked for MI6

Adil Hadi al Jazairi Bin Hamlili is an al-CIAda operative accused of carrying out many bombing campaigns, whilst at the very same time he was working for British military intelligence Mi6, this is according to secret files on detainees who were shipped to the US military’s Guantánamo Bay prison camp.

The recent wikileaks release of the Guantanamo files has proved that the vast majority of those captured were nothing but peasant farmers, but have still been locked up and tortured without charge or trial for almost a decade.

The Akh has been mapping out how the CIA/Mi6/Mossad and the Military Industrial Complex is instrumental in creating the terror threat.

We find out that Adil Hadi al Jazairi Bin Hamlili is a “facilitator, courier, kidnapper, and assassin for al-Qaida” and was detained in Pakistan in 2003 and later sent to Guantánamo Bay.

According to Hamlili’s Guantánamo “assessment” file, one of 759 individual dossiers obtained by the Guardian, US interrogators were convinced that he was simultaneously acting as an informer for British and Canadian intelligence.

Clive Stafford Smith, whose legal charity, Reprieve, represents many current and former inmates, said the files revealed the “sheer bureaucratic incompetence” of the US military’s intelligence gathering.

“When you gather intelligence in such an unintelligent way; if for example you sweep people up who you know are innocent, and it is in these documents; and then mistreat them horribly, you are not going to get reliable intelligence. You are going to make yourself a lot of enemies.”

And The Akh couldn’t agree more with those words. We are in a perpetual state of terrorism, ones where the masterminds are never captured, ever wondered why? I’ve written on it several times, that individuals like Rashid Rauf & Haroon Rashid Aswat the so called “brains” behind the 7/7 bombings in London are in fact agents of the intelligence apparatus.

There you have it, conclusive proof that the British intelligence agencies are in control of what you think are Al-Qaida, and it’s not The Akh that’s saying it, it’s your white terror experts that are saying it.

Sila Sahin extols “Freedom” to pose naked for Playboy

Sila Sahin is the poster child for assimilation in Europe. The Muslim Turkish/German model decided that in order to be truly free, she had to strip off for a photo shoot.

This rather deluded thought process led Sila to liking herself to a modern day Che Guevara as, get this, she’s in a bid to express her freedom…rather laughable isn’t it?

Recently The Akh has been blogging about one Shanna Bukhari’s wish to be Miss Universe which has been followed up by this peculiar case.

All these cases point to one certainty and that is the imposition of an identity upon Muslims.

For all my criticisms of the Americans, they allow multiple identities, you can be African-American, Mexican-American, even Arab-American with no problems, you even get your own day, complete with flags and ceremony.

In Europe there is an inherent intolerance that means all Muslims have to assimilate into our way of doing things or face being ostracised and maligned as the “other” who is the latent threat that lives amongst us.

This has and will continue to manifest itself amongst weak minded Muslims like the ones I’ve mentioned here, to play up on our differences, because whenever we travel to the old country of our parents and our fore fathers, it’s never “home” for us, and even though we are born and bred in Europe, we’re constantly told that we’re not German, French or British enough due to false constraints that have been set up as a standard that somehow we have to meet to qualify as a bonafide citizen.

If it means abandoning all the values you have been taught and stripping off for a bunch of pervs, then in the name of freedom, I’m going to do it.

The writer Kurt Vonnegut once said:

“We are the sum of the things we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be”.

Unfortunately it is beyond the rationale of most Muslims to think coherently to understand that “The West”, be that America, the UK or pockets of Europe cannot exist without separating Muslims from our identity, value system and culture.

Be proud of who you are, rather than desperately trying to be something you’re really not, just to fit in.

Whether your mind is ready to accept it or not, that’s what this culture or lack of culture is feeding us.

Be true to yourself.

A Song for Sudan – Apollo Brown “The Times” Feat. Oddisee

Oddisee & Apollo Brown team up on “The Times”. Oddisee, who is half Sudanese, doesn’t normally bring his politics to the table, but in this rare moment Oddisee offers an entire song devoted to the turbulent changes occurring in Northern Africa, in particular the historic vote that split his home country of Sudan into two separate nations.

The Republic of Southern Sudan is now the newest African nation: listen to Oddisee break his thoughts down over the Apollo Brown beat.
